Faithful Friday 05
If It's Not Good... Then He's Not Finished Yet
Happy Friday Friends,
I missed writing to you all last week but we were on our last family vacation and I was trying to keep all of my focus where it needed to be!
I am back this week with a slightly new set-up for Faithful Friday. This feels a bit more bite-sized and easier for you to digest with the busyness of mom-life! I hope you enjoy it and I would love to hear your feedback so complete the poll at the bottom and let me know if you prefer this vibe or the previous vibe better!
If many of you are entering into the season of a new school year, this Faithful Friday was written with you in mind!
Until Next Week,
Blair
"Plans" by Brandon Lake
Specific lyrics feeding my soul:
“When it’s hard to see, I’ll choose to believe
That You see what I haven’t yet
When I’m afraid, You remind me
That I’m in Your capable hands
I look back and notice, It’s You that’s been closest
To help me to never forget
You have good Plans
If it’s not good, then You’re not finished yet.”
When we are in the middle of transitional seasons (back to school, new jobs, house moves), it can be hard to see that there is a bigger plan in place. When we try to have complete control, we are robbing ourselves of the best truth: that Someone else holds every facet of our life in His hands… and if something in your life doesn’t feel good, or complete, or hopeful, He is not finished yet!
"Lord, you are my God;
I will exalt you and praise your name,
for in perfect faithfulness
you have done wonderful things,
things planned long ago."
(Isaiah 25:1)
We have to remember that God’s plans have been in motion for a very long time. Before our children existed, before we even took our first breath, God was laying a foundation for their stories. The forgotten homework, the missed bus, the ‘I don’t fit in’ tears? He’s already weaving redemption into these moments. When I zoom out, I remember: His plans are bigger than today’s chaos.
When I'm jolted awake by another 6 AM alarm, when I'm scrambling to find matching socks (again), when I second-guess if I packed enough love notes in their lunches... I hear the whisper: 'I planned this day too.' There's something sacred happening in these ordinary moments, the rushed goodbyes, the permission slips I forgot to sign, the way my kindergartener still wants me to walk him to class. What feels like chaos to me is part of a bigger story God has been writing since before time began. My job isn't to be perfect; it's to point them to the One who is.
Snacks & A Game
Snacks first (hangry = no one’s friend).
Then, we play a quick game to reset. Our current favorite is Would You Rather. We got Jones a would you rather book: school edition, and it has been such a fun thing to pull out and giggle over. This pulls them out of school mode and allows us a good moment of connection before homework or after school activities.
Other game ideas: MASH (remember this one? My boys think it is so funny!); Finish this sentence (this one always ends up hilarious… or gross); True or False (look up questions online); Story Creation (One person starts a story and everyone adds on).
Jesus,
when the back-to-school rush makes us forget the bigger story, pull us close. Help us see ourselves and our children as You do. We are your masterpieces in progress, held by Your ancient, perfect faithfulness. Help us remember that Your plans are good and that Your direction is always right. Help us relinquish control so that we feel closer to You in moments of chaos.
Amen
What’s one thing working in your back-to-school routine? Come on, share with us! We could all use a little encouragement (especially ME!!!)
