Weekly Wash-Up - 08/24/25
Cleaning Up the Mess, Holding Onto the Mercies
Welcome to my new series, The Weekly Wash-Up… your gentle nudge to press pause, sort through the chaos, and maybe even find a little mercy in the mess. Think of this as the laundry room of my Substack: a no-judgement zone where we will wring out the week’s happenings, scrub at the stubborn stains (discipline, anxiety, bedtimes… why do socks disappear?!), and fold in some grace along the way. No fancy folding techniques here, just real talk about what we’re buying, cooking, reading, and clinging to when life feels like a never-ending spin cycle. Basically…. I did the scrolling this week, so you don’t have to! Bring your wrinkled heart, your pile of problems, and your overflowing hamper of life; you’re in good company!
A little heads up! For the next two months, The Weekly Wash-Up will be free for all; this is my way of saying thank you for being here! After that, it’ll become a paid subscriber perk, a cozy corner just for those who want to keep sorting through the messes and mercies together. If you’ve ever thought about upgrading, now’s the perfect time to hop in! I’ll send out reminders as we get closer to the cut-off! Paid or not, you will always receive my Faithful Friday newsletter and a few other free posts!
Because life, like laundry, needs sorting… here’s what rose to the top this week!
Faithful Friday - This week was all about allowing God to shepherd our children and taking our own control issues out of it! A little excerpt if you missed it:
Using AI Prompts to Help Your Fam Stay on Budget - I know, I know, AI is infiltrating everywhere, but if it is going to be around, let’s use it to our advantage. This quick (2 min) read has me thinking this might be the perfect hack… that will make my husband happy and doesn’t cost any money :)
Weekly Meal/Snack Prep- The way this mom grinds out snacks and preps for her family’s week ahead is goals! Now, while I know myself well enough to know that I will NOT be doing all of these things, I love the idea of being able to prep a few things on Sundays for our fam, so I don’t feel so frazzled when I am asked what we have for breakfast?!
The little things that stick in my mind (and my cart). Shop them all HERE!
Grab this top and these pants to look put together and comfy all at once. Perfect for school drop-offs, early fall movie nights, and taking the trash out without looking like you are in your pjs already ;)
These car trash bags - we just got a different car, and I am determined to keep it clean! My kids are out of the “throwing everything on the floor” stage, but snacks are still very much a part of our afternoon hustle to and fro. Enter these nifty little trash bags! They hang over the headrest in front of the boys’ seats so they have a place to put their trash immediately! They are perforated, so on Fridays, we pull them out and toss them into the big trash at home.
These Starbucks gift card packs- I always have these on hand for when I need a quick gift for teachers or a pick-me-up for a friend. I love having things like this at home because it encourages me to actually follow through in taking care of those I appreciate instead of just thinking about it.
These Penny Loafers!!- Currently eyeing these loafers, which would be great with dresses now and jeans later in the Fall. They are the perfect color for this time of year.
This Striped Amazon Set is truly so good. Every time I wear this, I receive compliments. I have worn it as a cover-up, to pick the kids up, even to a casual girls’ dinner. It is one of those things I reach for constantly because it is just so easy to throw on. It is also great to travel with because it doesn’t wrinkle!!
Where meals are designed to survive the spin cycle of our lives. There will be minimal ingredients, maximal adaptability, and zero fancy techniques.
This week, we are switching meals and tackling breakfast. I am going for something that I can freeze and pop into the air fryer in the morning for the boys. Something that will pack protein into an easy, handheld pocket. So here’s what I came up with:
Biscuit Bombs:
1 can refrigerated jumbo buttermilk biscuits (8 count can - cut them through the middle so you have a top crust and a bottom crust)
1 lb breakfast sausage (mild or hot, your preference)
4 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
1 ½ cups shredded cheese (a mix of cheddar and Monterey Jack is great, or use your favorite)
1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
½ tsp onion powder (optional)
2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing after baking - optional but recommended
Instructions:
Filling: Mix cooled & cooked sausage, cream cheese, shredded cheese, and seasoning in a bowl.
Assemble: Flatten each half biscuit into a 4-inch circle. Place 1-2 tbsp of filling in the center. Pull edges up and pinch tightly to seal into a ball.
To Bake Now: Bake at 375°F (190°C) on a parchment-lined sheet for 15-18 mins until golden. Brush with melted butter.
To Freeze: Place unbaked bombs on a sheet and freeze for 1 hour until solid. Transfer to a freezer bag for up to 2 months.
From Frozen to Breakfast:
Oven: Bake frozen bombs at 375°F for 20-25 mins.
Air Fryer: Cook at 350°F for 10-14 mins.
Microwave: 1-2 bombs for 60-90 secs (soft exterior).
Pro-Tip: Ensure the sausage is completely cool before mixing to prevent a gooey, hard-to-seal filling
Scrub, spray… and then pray. This week’s trick for stains no one warned you about when you became a mom (baseball dirt? bedtime troubles? picky eaters? how to get slime out of the carpet? I’ve got you).
The Stinky Shoe Hack for Little Athletes:
Sports season is almost upon us again (or maybe yours has already started), which means smelly clothes, smelly socks, well, pretty much smelly everything! Here is what I am trying this soccer season for my boys: Putting a dryer sheet in each cleat or stinky sneaker overnight. It supposedly absorbs odor amazingly well!
One thing to tuck into the back pocket of your mind this week - save it for when your soul needs the delicate setting. These words are little treasures I have found along the way, and maybe they will find a home in your heart this week, too.
On Pryaer…
“Prayer is not a soft place to lay our heads or a workout routine for burning spiritual fat. It’s a wild, unpredictable adventure that only those brave enough to strip themselves of artificial identities, get the wind completely knocked out of them a time or two, and see beauty in mystery will ever take…Prayer is not for the faint of heart”
-Tyler Stanton-
I hope your week ahead is full of goodness! See you Friday friends!
